Wightwick Manor

After a morning in the beauty parlour with Monsieur  Louis,

some excellent bunny sandwiches

and the first of the Darcey Bussells,

we tootled along to Wightwick Manor.

What a treat, the most wonderful detail everywhere.

When we visited the National Memorial Arboretum my favourite part was the wall with the memorials from pulled down factories and workplaces long gone.  The memorials from the Mander factory have been given sanctuary in a quiet little spot at Wightwick.

50p Pillowcase Dress

A 50p pillowcase from a charity shop in Axminister, I think we were en-rout to Camp Bestival 2010?  We stopped off at Hugh's River Cottage Cafe.

Spain 2011, collecting shells, pulling faces.

Perfect for lounging by the pool.

2013 No longer a dress but still a favourite, I think a few more years left in it yet.

Hakkasan

We finished our trip to London with a bite to eat at Hakkasan.  We like the food and the decor.  The toilets are really cool with a wall of doors and Aesop toiletries.  You have to pay attention when selecting toilet gender, it's dark and the ladies is first and not obvious.  I know a gentleman who did in fact use the ladies and was none the wiser.

Dim Sum all round, my favourite is the scallop and caviar.

The best Sesame Prawn Toast.

Jivara Bomb, a bit like a massive Ferrero Rocher but with ice cream in the middle, hot chocolate sauce poured over and popping candy in a trail around the plate.

Did I mention that at breakfast we saw Ruth Rogers - so we knew it was going to be good - and Marc Almond.  All in all a fabulous day that will long be remembered.

New Designers - Our Picks

Somebody liked the little men!

I liked Judith Watson's combination of knitting and rug making, Krishna Odedra's leather and Emily Martin's dementia work.

New Designers

We were on the 7.30 train to the Big Smoke with a quickly knocked up Hello Kitty bag full of snappin.

The Tube is just a load of smelly armpits when you are seven and short and everyone is pig ignorant.

Eggs Ben at The Wolseley.

Window shopping down Old Bond Street.

Victoria's Secret, Betsy's favourite runway show outfit!  If you take a seven year old advisor underwear shopping you will come out with something sparkly.

Liberty to drool over the Betsy fabric, there is now a Betsy Ann which just seems to be a smaller scale Betsy.  Hawk-eye spotted a Hello Kitty remnant, they haven't had it in for about twelve months.

Ray-Stitch didn't have the entomology pins that I went in for so I ended up with a pretty decent Bakewell instead.

More of the Big Smoke tomorrow...

Hello Kitty

Got this the other day when I was looking for something completely different, I know a small person who needs it.  Signed up for a couple of selling opportunities toward the end of the year and Kitty may well make an appearance.

Quilting Liberty At Last

Basting Spray has opened up a whole new world for me, seems to have worked well on Liberty and I am coming with lots more uses for it.

Spinners and Weavers tonight was a skill share, the fire extinguisher is in case she burns the wheel up !

Betsy's Biscuit Factory

In the kitchen again, this time she delved to the bottom of the pinny drawer and found Kitty.

Yesterday we started with Mary's recipe and reduced the sugar from 150g to 100g but left in the required tbsp of g, instead adding 4 tbspolden syrup.  I thought they were too sweet.

Today we bumped up the Oatbran content and completely omitted the sugar and golden syrup instead adding 4 tbsp of the stem ginger syrup - which is no where near as sweet as the golden - may as well use it as it's there.

Success, Miss Belle will be blogging her recipe soon.

While she was in the kitchen I was snipping ends.

Pound Shop

When we go to town Miss Bell always asks if we can go to the pound shop, the Katherine House £1 Shop of course.  She got a new Elmo and I got...

Six cups from my youth for £1.

Four of these handmade beauties for £1.
Definitely £2 worth of pleasure.

Quilted Rolls and Scones

Now I am banner free I have been able to crack on with the Liberty quilt top.

White bread rolls - 4 big 8 small - only because we had burgers and even I wouldn't make anyone eat a burger on wholemeal.

Miss Belle was in her kitchen again, much debate on scone pronunciation.

Square because the cutters were coloured.

We don't roll our scones, just a gentle sort of pat together, the monster scone - which Louis Ardeche usually has - is all the cuttings squigged together.

Muffin Girl

Miss Belle thinks that our new improved kitchen area is just for her, she's not as tall as the rest of us.

Banana, Chocolate and Oat muffins, all on her own, half the sugar required in the recipe and they were just fine.  The dinky ones are for her break time snack at school, after the fruit obviously!

Running Through Strawberry Jam

This mornings run was very hot and slow, like running through Strawberry Jam in fact, because not only do the poly tunnels on the horizon waft out the smell of Strawberrys, it's also very hilly and my legs do feel like they are trying to run through jam.

Some beautiful scenery though.

The banner is done, we marched it to school and got a few toots.

Chicks are loving the long lazy days and enjoying watermelon and garlic and thyme pittas.

Charity Shopping Heaven

A superdy duperdy cake tin with handle for £2.

Doll 50p, doodle book 50p and double bed sheet £2.

We finished the day with Pollyana - our new favourite film - and a Cheese Pie with onions, wet garlic, a bit of leftover bacon and the usual tomato on top.
