Babushka Skulls

I loathe and detest hand rolled and stitched hems but there's really nothing as good,
a machine rolled hem is just to stiff and these beauties need to be fluid.

I got this silk a while ago because I thought it looked interesting and I could tell it was good stuff.
After a bit of research found that they were colour samples for a line of Liberty scarves - Result!

Cute babushkas or skulls depending on your point of view.
The super fine pins and Thread Heaven are out today.

Woolfest 2015

One of those very rare days when absolutely everything runs smoothly, all plans come together exactly and many many people exceed your expectations.  We had a brilliant day at Woolfest in Cockermouth, breakfasted at Tebay, lunched at the sheep ring, satsuma breaked with live music, dined well and finished off with a monster ice cream after a stroll in glorious scenery.

Organisation by the Woolclip massive was spot-on, stall holders as excited to be there as us and everyone just having a jolly time surrounded by fibre and the livestock that provide it.

We were very proud to be almost the last car on what had been a chock-a-block car park.
The day was rounded off in beautiful Keswick
and we drove home through the most amazing clouds we have ever seen.
Truly a day that will be remembered.

Evacuee For The Day

Miss Belle is an evacuee for a day
on a school trip to Shugborough Hall.

Surprisingly for us we didn't have a suitable frock
so I knocked this one up at the weekend, everything else we had in.
We had a bit of a debate about dress length,
obviously it would have been a lot shorter but I wanted her to be able to wear it again.
We decided the length by the good old fashioned, 'touch your toes can we see your knickers' test!

I think the boy doll is about the right period.
I bought it years ago with the intention of tidying it up for Louis
but then I just couldn't bear to.
He has been waiting for just this day.

As has this fabric, it's been in someones stash since before we went decimal
- February 1971.

Cross Back Aprons Galore

It takes a heck of a long time to get to this stage in the game.
Find the fabric, wash the fabric, iron the fabric, design it, cut it, sew it, starch it, get a small child to take 734 photos of you modelling 10 aprons - on 730 of which you are pulling a face!  Get over it.  Write, measure, describe, tag, price, edit.
Set free into the world and hope someone is on your wavelength.
Vacuum the loose threads that are all over your house - this will/can never happen.

Six of the ten recent completions are now listed over on my Etsy shop.

Lots of hand embroidered linen and a bit of mint 74 year old WWII Utility linen tablecloth.

Sock Knitting Workshop

I had a lovely day on Saturday over at Salt Line Studio
teaching some new sock knitters the joys of
provisional cast-on, toe up socks and short rows.
